Description

This is a row of shops dating from the early 19th century, located on Fore Street, Chard. The buildings are stucco faced with a slate roof and brick stacks to the gable ends of the two buildings on the left. They have a double-depth plan and are arranged over three storeys, with an attic on the left. The windows are all from the mid-20th century, replacing the originals at that time.

The left-hand building has paired 8/8-pane sashes to the first floor, 4/8-pane sashes to the second floor, and a 3/3-pane dormer window in the roof. The central building has two 8/8-pane sashes to the first floor and two 4/8-pane sashes to the second floor; each of these windows is adorned with a keystone. The right-hand building has late 19th-century 2/2-pane sashes, also with keystones. The roofline of this building is lower and features stepped copings on its right gable end, which adjoins Lloyds Bank. Two-light casement windows with glazing bars are located at the rear of the buildings. The interior has not been inspected.
