Description

This range of buildings, located 30 metres west of Farleigh Castle, was originally a farmhouse but is now used as a school. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The structure is built of random rubble Doulting stone and features a stone slate hipped roof. It has a two-storey 'U'-shaped plan with a five-window front and a central entrance. The ground floor has plain stone mullion and transom windows with 2- and 4-pane casements, while the first floor features 2-light stone mullion windows with stopped drip-moulds and a variety of casements. The rear of the building includes plain 2-light stone mullion windows and 20th-century casement windows.

The east side was refronted in the 18th century in a militarized Gothic style. The windows are retained by a front wall that has been raised to form a parapet with four slit openings. The central section is refaced in ashlar stone, flanked by diagonal two-stage buttresses and corbelled out round angle turrets with slit openings and bracketted and embattled parapets, although only one turret survives. The central entrance features a four-centre arched door opening, with a two-light window above it, as well as two cruciform openings and a central blocked quatrefoil opening. At the northwest corner, there is an octagonal tower added in the 18th century, which also has a bracketted and embattled parapet.
