Description

Badger Street Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, which was altered in the 18th and mid-19th centuries. It is constructed of rendered rubble with a steeply pitched slate roof, overhanging eaves, and shaped brackets. It features brick stacks with moulded caps and gable ends, including an external stack with a stair adjacent to the left side and a steeply pitched, independent, slate-roofed addition to the right with a 20th-century stack rising from the eaves. The original plan was of a three-cell layout with a cross passage, and it has two gabled wings at the rear. A store and garage adjoin the house on the right side. The windows are mostly 19th-century many-paned casements, with a two-light casement in the addition alongside garage doors. The interior was not inspected during the listing assessment. It is believed to contain a 12-panel compartment ceiling, which was cut by an inserted wall. Evidence suggests a demolished stud and panel screen once divided the cross passage. There is also a possibility of a rebuilt stone spiral stair to the right of the blocked left gable end fireplace. Reused beads from two rooms to the right have been reassembled to resemble compartment ceilings.
