Description
No 8 Mill Lane is a former mill that has been converted into a house. It has origins dating back to the 17th century and was converted in the 19th century. The building is constructed from local stone rubble that has been colourwashed, and it features a plain clay tile roof that is half hipped at the south end, with a coped gable at the north end. There is a central brick chimney stack.
The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has two-light casement windows with horizontal glazing bars set in segmental arched openings. There is a plain boarded door in a similar arched opening in the first bay, and there is another door on the right of the third bay that is now blocked. An arch over the former mill stream has also been blocked and is now conduited. There is an outshut at part of the rear of the building.
Known as the Great Mill, it was first recorded in 1669 and was one of three grist mills that belonged to the manor.
