Description

The Chantry is a 17th-century farmhouse, now a house. It has a cross-passage plan. The exterior is roughcast, with a Bridgwater patent tile roof and brick stacks. The front has four bays. The first floor has four-light wooden-mullioned windows with leaded lights; the ground floor has four-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned windows with stopped labels. A door opening has a moulded wooden surround and a studded plank door with strap hinges. A corresponding door is on the rear of the cross-passage, both protected by 20th-century glazed porches. Inside, the left side of the ground floor has a cross-beamed ceiling, a broad fireplace with a wooden bressumer, a plaster overmantel, and a moulded cornice. A plaster overmantel on the first floor is inscribed with raised lettering reading "I.W. 1655."
