Description
The gateway and wall surrounding the churchyard of the former Church of St Michael were built around 1857 by William Butterfield for the Duke of Somerset. The wall is constructed of limestone rubble and features dressed coping, varying in height from one metre in the south to eight metres in the north, where it serves as a retaining wall for the churchyard. The gateway, located at the southeastern corner, includes a pointed archway set in an ashlar surround, with buttresses and coping that ends in an elaborate finial.
