Description

The Brown family chest tomb, located about 14 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St Nicholas, dates from the late 18th century. It features a stone ledger top with a moulded cornice and plinth. The tomb is adorned with fluted Ionic pilasters that create two bays on the north and south sides, inscribed with the names of members of the Brown family, including Sam Brown who died in 1771. The inscriptions on the east and west ends were obscured by ivy at the time of the survey in January 1985.
