Description
The Cosenes monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, 5 metres south-south-east of the south transept of the Church of All Saints. It dates from the 16th century and is made of Doulting stone. The tomb features a moulded base, plain sides and flanks, a dentilled under-frieze course, and a plain inscribed frieze. The flat top has rounded leading edges. The inscription around the frieze reads, "HERE RESTETH THE BODY IOF IOHN/COSENES WHO/WAS BURYED THE 19 DAY OF FEBRVAR/ANNO 1590," along with some additional 17th-century inscriptions on the sides. This monument is one of the earliest chest tombs in the area, notable for its unusual pattern and good preservation.
