Description
The Church of St Katherine is a Grade II* listed building located in East Woodlands. The church features a classically influenced tower built around 1712, while the nave, chancel, north and south aisles, and south porch were added by J. L. Pearson in 1880, showcasing a blend of Geometrical and Decorated architectural styles. The structure is made of rubble with tile roofs, coped verges, and cruciform finials.
The west tower is constructed of ashlar and includes two orders of angle pilasters that end in pinnacles, a stringcourse, and a cornice. It has a tall stone spire with three light mullioned and transomed bell openings, and a four-light semi-circular headed west window featuring a transom and tracery at the top. The buttressed nave consists of two bays with paired windows set in pointed arch surrounds, and the two-bay chancel follows a similar style with a sill band and a three-light east window.
Inside, the church contains an 18th-century carved wooden pulpit, a 15th-century octagonal font with a Jacobean cover, and additional 19th-century features such as a reredos, sedilia, and wrought iron decoration on the chancel rail.
