Description

The monument to Ione Drome is located in the churchyard, about 23 metres south of the south porch of the Church of St Peter. It dates from 1699 and is made of dressed stone. The monument is a squat oblong slab with an undulating capping, featuring all decoration and inscriptions on the west side, while the east side is blank. There are two shallow recessed panels with inscriptions: one for Ione Orome dated 1699 and another for John Orome dated 1705. Each side has nailhead decoration and a central band, with a shallow semi-circular headed recess above each panel that includes radiating feather decoration and a central palmette. The inscription along the base reads: "TAKE THIS ADVICE FROME MY DECEAS, ONE WITH ANOTHER LIVE IN PEACE, THEN G0D WILL BLESS YOU HERE ON EARTH, AND MAKE YOU HAPPY AFTER DEATH."
