Description

39 and 40 High Street is a building dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, which has been refronted at a later date. It stands three storeys tall and is constructed of yellow brick, topped with an old tile roof featuring bargeboards. The building has modern casement windows that include mullions and transoms. Notably, there is a well-preserved 19th-century double shop front characterized by slender colonnettes and fretted ironwork panels. The rear elevation reveals simple timber-framing that is exposed beneath the hipped old tile roof. Nos 37 to 40 High Street form a cohesive group.
