Description
Durborough Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with possible earlier origins, and was enlarged in the early 19th century. It is constructed of colouredwashed random rubble with a pantiled roof and features brick stacks at the gable ends, positioned to the right of the cross passage and between the fourth and fifth bays on the right. The building has a plan consisting of three cells and a cross passage, and it may have originally been an open hall house, later expanded by one bay to the right.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a façade with a 2:2:1 bay arrangement. Most of the windows are early 19th century leaded iron casements, except for a 20th-century wooden casement on the ground floor to the left of the entrance. There are only two windows to the right of the entrance, which features a 20th-century plank door set within a 4-centred arched head doorcase.
Inside, the inner room has a ceiling with a six-panel compartment and a hollow chamfered beam. The space has been divided by the insertion of a corridor at the rear, while the outer room has chamfered beams with steps and run-out stops. Originally, stairs were located to the left of the fireplace.
