Description

Westover House is an early 19th-century house located in Crewkerne. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features stepped stone coping on the gable ends of a slate roof, with rendered stacks at the gable ends and right of center. The house has a rectangular plan with a lean-to on the right side and stands two storeys tall with a four-window range. The main entrance is now at what was formerly the rear of the house, but it is described here as it was noted in previous listings. All windows have gauged cambered stone arches; the first-floor window on the inside left is blind, while the others are 20th-century three-light casements with small panes, except for the French windows on the ground floor left and a 20th-century conservatory in the center. A 20th-century gabled entrance porch is located at the rear. The interior has not been inspected but is known to have been altered. Historically, the house originally featured a central entrance hall with a double-depth plan, stacks at the gable ends, and a three-window range; the left range was added in the 19th century when the building was used as a school.
