Description
West Lodge is a house dating from the 17th century, which was later extended to the left. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with stepped stone copings and stone stacks at the right gable end and along the ridge at right-of-centre. The building has a two-unit plan that has been extended to create a three-unit plan with a rear wing on the right.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range. A moulded string course runs between the floors from the right quoin to a 20th-century shallow-pitched tiled gabled porch located to the right of the ridge stack. The entrance features a 19th-century six-panel door with three long glazed panels at the top. On the first floor, there are 19th-century paired 4/4-pane sash windows at eaves level, one positioned above the ground-floor window to the right, which has a 20th-century tall three-light leaded window. To the left, there are 20th-century French windows, and far left is an 18th-century three-light leaded casement with H hinges beneath a wooden lintel.
At the rear, there is a 20th-century four-light casement on the first floor and a five-light casement on the ground floor. The later rear wing contains various 20th-century casements, mostly leaded, along with two 6/6-pane sashes on the first floor.
The property also features subsidiary elements, including spearheaded railings with urn finials attached to the right, which border the front garden on the east side and connect to a high limestone rubble wall at the front, where there are 20th-century double gates.
