Description
This is a house, originally built as a school house in 1828 for Richard Carver of Bridgewater, to the designs of John Patch of Crewkerne. The front facade is constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar, featuring rusticated quoins, a moulded eaves cornice, and coping to the pantile roof, with brick stacks to the gable ends. The house follows a double-depth plan and is three storeys high, arranged in a symmetrical three-window range. A Tuscan-style porch with a pediment sits above double doors, each composed of two panels with glazed margin panes at the top. The lower two floors have flat stone arches above eight-pane sashes, while the second floor features three four/eight-pane sashes. The right return elevation has a pedimented Ham Hill stone doorcase. The interior was noted to retain original features, including panelled shutters and six-panel doors, though it has not been inspected. The building was used as a school during the 19th century.
