Description
Great Rusham is a farmhouse that has medieval origins, with alterations made in the 17th century and extensive restoration from a derelict condition around 1976. The building features coursed rubble construction, a double-Roman tile roof with coped verges, and ashlar stacks. It is designed as an open-hall house that was later floored, with an added solar wing creating an L-plan layout. The structure has a single storey and attic, with a total of four bays and one additional bay. On the left side, there are three 2-light stone-mullioned windows, a narrow 4-light window, and a 4-light mullioned and transomed window, all of which have been renewed. To the right, there is a gabled porch with a front-facing gable that features coping, a finial, and a moulded 4-centred arch outer door opening, all constructed during the restoration. The right wing includes a 4-light stone-mullioned window on the ground floor and two 2-light windows at the label end. Inside, the building showcases a 2-bay arch-braced cruck roof with smoke blackening, a fireplace in a first-floor room with moulded stone jambs and a wooden 4-centred arch head, as well as ceiling beams, doorways, and additional fireplaces. Despite significant rebuilding, the interior retains important early work.
