Description

West Town Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to 1699. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with a slate roof and ashlar stacks. A weather-cock with a fretwork inscription "IG 1722" is fixed to the east gable. The building originally had a three-unit and cross passage plan, with a later wing added at a right angle to the rear. It is two storeys and an attic, with four bays. The first floor has three-light, ovolo moulded stone mullioned windows under wooden lintols. The ground floor has two sash windows with glazing bars, also under wooden lintols. There are two door openings; to the left is a plank door with a glazed panel, and to the right a glazed door. Inside, there are chamfered and stopped ceiling beams and a fireplace with a broad, chamfered wooden bressumer. The roof features tie beam trusses. An inscribed stone plaque on the chimney reads “ICLG 1699”.
