Description
Ashtree House is a house located in Curry Mallet, with origins in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed and squared lias stone and features a thatched roof with coped verges and brick stacks. The house has an L-shaped frontage with two storeys and a layout of one bay on the left and three bays on the right. The first floor has three-light casement windows positioned directly under the eaves, while the ground floor windows have wooden lintels. To the right of the house is an 18th-century panelled door with a flat hood supported by shaped wooden brackets.
The forecourt wall extends from the right side of the house and is flanked by two sections of wooden railings that lead to a simple iron gate. Inside the house, notable features include several fireplaces, one of which has a high-quality cast-iron under-fire and an oven with a brass maker's plate that reads: "The American Stove Store, William Poore and Co, 139 Cheapside, London" (as noted in an unpublished report from June 1964).
