Description
The gatepiers and boundary walling to The Manor House and Mallet Court date from the 16th century but have been significantly rebuilt since then. The walls are made of local lias stone and vary in height from approximately 1 to 5 meters, featuring coping. They extend for about 40 meters along the east side of Headwell and then turn eastward for about 150 meters along the south side of Marshway. The wall then turns south, forming the eastern boundary of the garden of Mallet Court, which is not listed.
Adjacent to the Manor House are 18th-century gatepiers made of ashlar stone with ball finials, which incorporate moulded stonework from the 16th or early 17th century. There is a portion of the wall along Marshway that includes a small doorway with a wooden frame and a plank door, as well as two additional gateways with plank gates and 20th-century piers. This section also features several buttresses. A ditch bordering parts of the wall is said to represent a remnant of the moat of Mallet's Castle.
