Description

The Church of St Michael and All Angels is a parish church that dates back to the late 14th century, with the nave, chancel, and south porch rebuilt in 1865. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble and features a tile roof with fishscale bands, showcasing a Perpendicular architectural style. The west tower is unbuttressed and consists of three stages, complete with a polygonal stair turret, a pierced parapet with corner pinnacles, and two-light bell-chamber windows.

The church has a two-bay nave that includes a reused two-light window from the 15th century on its south wall, and a single-bay chancel with three-light east and west windows that have intersecting tracery. Inside, the floors are laid with encaustic tiles, and there is a 14th-century font topped with a Jacobean cover, as well as the royal arms from 1637. The interior also features an 18th-century oil painting of the crucifixion and a 19th-century wall monument by T King of Bath. In the chancel, there are a sedilia and piscina, each with a cinquefoiled head, a reredos, and two Jacobean chairs. The Perpendicular tower arch is notable, and there is a fragment of an Anglo-Saxon cross on the north wall of the chancel. Additionally, some stained glass dates from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
