Description
The Church of St John the Baptist is a parish church located in Badgworth, with origins dating back to the 13th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th century and underwent extensive restoration around 1860. The church features squared rubble construction, with some render remaining at the base of the tower, and a triple Roman tile roof with coped verges and cruciform finials.
The building consists of a two-bay nave and a two-bay chancel, showcasing one, two, and three-light Perpendicular windows, including one in the chancel that has primitive heads as label stops. The tower is unbuttressed and has two stages, with the top stage being a 19th-century rebuild that includes large two-light bell chamber windows and a plain parapet.
Notable features include a 16th-century south doorway and a 17th-century door. Inside, the chancel is adorned with encaustic tiles, and there is a piscina. The church also houses a 12th-century rectangular font with a scalloped base, an early 17th-century pulpit, and an early 19th-century wall monument in the nave. Additionally, two windows contain stained glass from the restoration period, and the church has 19th-century pews.
