Description

The churchyard cross, located 8 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St George, dates from the late 14th century and was restored in the early 20th century. It is made of red sandstone ashlar and stands about 5 metres high. The base features a calvary with three steps, the bottom step having steeply chamfered nosing and an octagonal shape. The cross has a square socket with convex broaches and an octagonal tapering shaft, which was restored with the addition of a cross around 1920. This structure is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Somerset No 246).
