Description

Nos. 16, 18, and 20 Burrough Street comprise a row of three cottages, likely originating as a farmhouse in the 17th century and subsequently modified. The cottages are constructed primarily of Ham stone, appearing as near-ashlar on the front, with rubble for the sides and rear. The roof is covered in Welsh slate, with stepped coped gables. Brick chimney stacks are also present. The arrangement is two storeys, featuring four bays. The windows are ovolo-mould mulioned, set within wave-mould recesses, and are predominantly three-light, with labels below. A moulded, cambered-arched doorway, also with a label, is positioned between bays three and four. A 20th-century window and a rear extension are visible on the south side, while a 19th-century doorway is found in the north gable. Interior features of the north cottage include a six-panel ceiling with moulded beams, and blocked, cambered-arched fireplaces. The central cottage was not inspected, and the south section is reported to contain little of particular interest.
