Description

Stone Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse located on Main Street, dating from the 17th century with an extension from the 18th century. It is constructed of ham stone ashlar and features a triple-roll clay tiled roof with coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The building has a 'T'-plan and is two storeys high with four bays, although the easternmost bay may be a later addition.

The farmhouse has a plinth and an eaves course, with hollow-chamfered mullioned windows: a three-light window above and a four-light window in the lower bay one, and three-light windows in the lower bays two and three. There is a continuous string course from bays two to four, which steps up over a chamfered cambered-arched doorway leading to bay three, where there is a 20th-century boarded door. An added window to the left of lower bay two indicates the former location of a gable staircase. A Sun Insurance fire plaque, affixed on Christmas Eve 1749 according to the owner, is located between upper bays two and three.

The interior has not been seen, but it is reported to have a cross-passage plan with deep chamfered beams featuring step and run-out stops. The central room includes a four-panel ceiling and a cambered arched fireplace with a side stone doorway. The rear extension has a wide fireplace and signs of a curing chamber. The roof trusses have not been examined.
