Description

Ash House is a large detached house located on Main Street, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with remodelling in the 19th century. It is constructed of ham stone ashlar and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with sawn stone ridges and hips, along with wide eaves soffits and ashlar chimney stacks. The building has a closed U-plan layout and stands two storeys high with five bays on each side.

The exterior includes a plinth, cill band courses, a moulded eaves course, and rusticated quoins. The entrance is on the west side, which features cruciform mullioned and transomed windows set in architraves with rectangular leaded lights and some iron-framed opening casements. The entrance has a six-panel door in an architrave with a hood mould above. The south elevation mirrors this design but has had all mullions and transoms removed; it includes 16-pane sash windows above and 4-pane sash windows below. There is a matching doorway in the lower bay three, which has been blocked and features an ashlar fielded-panel to create the appearance of doors. The east elevation is simpler and features a 24-pane stairway window. There is a 20th-century extension at the north-east corner. The interior has not been seen, and the house is currently used as accommodation for senior citizens.
