Description
No. 5 Main Street is a semi-detached house dating from the 17th or 18th century. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared ham stone, with ashlar dressings, and features a clay tile double Roman roof. The house has a plain east gable and a continuation to the west, with brick chimney stacks.
The building is two stories high and has three bays. The upper bays 1 and 2 contain 20th-century casement windows, while bay 3 is blank. On the ground floor, there are hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in recessed bays 1 and 2, which are rectangular-leaded with iron framed opening lights and lack labels. There are 20th-century doors in plain openings between bays 1 and 2 and to the lower bay 3, which may be a later addition. The rear of the house has further mullioned windows. The interior has not been seen.
Attached to the west side is the Bell Inn, which is probably of the same date but has been altered too much to be of special interest.
