Description

The Baptist Chapel, originally an Independent Chapel, was built in 1801 and rebuilt in 1810. It is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and has a slate roof. The building has a "T"-shaped plan and is two stories high with four bays. It features 16-light sash windows set in cambered-head architraves, with relieving arches above. There are corner pilasters and a shaped gable with coping, which has a base for a finial. In the center of the gable, there is an oval plaque with raised letters stating "Independent Chapel 1801." The chapel has six window returns with similar window designs, and there is one semi-circular arched door opening on each side, each with four-panelled doors. The interior includes a complete mid-19th century galleried layout.
