Description
The Toll House in Ilminster is an early 19th-century building made of rough Ham Hill stone, topped with a slate roof featuring stepped stone copings and brick stacks at the gable ends. The structure has limestone rubble returns and a T-shaped plan, which includes a late 20th-century rear extension. It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range. The right-of-centre door is from the 20th century and features a slate hood supported by metal scroll brackets. To the right, there is a two-storey smooth ashlar canted bay. All windows have hollow-moulded stone mullions, with late 19th-century paired 1/1-pane sashes on the left and one 1/1-pane sash in both windows at the front of the bay. The interior of the old toll house retains some of its 19th-century character.
