Description
The former Poor House, located at the rear of Chapel Cottage, dates back to 1817 and is currently being converted into two houses as of April 1983. It is constructed of red brick in English Garden wall bond and features a plain clay tile roof with coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building is two stories tall with four bays. The upper windows in bays one and two are tall 15-pane casements, with blocked openings below. Bays three and four have small pane upper casement windows with two lights, and bay four includes a lower three-light casement window. There are two entrance doors in bays three and four, which are now enclosed by 20th-century porches. An incised Ham stone plaque located between the upper windows of bays three and four indicates the date of 1817, along with the names of the churchwardens and builder. The building holds good group value and is of considerable local historical interest.
