Description
The Duke of York Inn and Duke of York Cottage is an inn with an attached cottage, dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from coursed and squared rubble, topped with a Bridgewater patent tile roof featuring coped verges, three brick stacks, and a single concrete block stack. It stands two storeys high and has five bays.
On the first floor, there are four three-light 19th-century casement windows under wooden lintels, while the ground floor has two similar casements. Additionally, there is a small 20th-century bay window on the ground floor with five lights and a lead roof, along with a long shallow five-light canted bay, where each light has a casement with glazing bars and a hipped slate roof. The entrance features a pair of flush-panelled doors with circular windows. The extreme left bay has a four-light stone-mullioned window with a label on the ground floor. There are two door openings: one on the left with a gabled porch and a plank door, and another on the right with a flush-panelled door. Inside, there is a fireplace with a broad wooden bressumer.
