Description
This cottage, located 15 metres north of Shurton Lodge, dates from the 17th century and was altered in the 18th century, possibly when a fireplace was added. It is constructed of blue lias random rubble with a pantiled roof and features a brick stack at the left gable end. The building has a single-cell plan, likely originally divided by a wooden partition. It stands two storeys tall, with a central loft door on the first floor and a ground floor that includes a three-light unglazed wooden mullion window flanking a central entrance. The right-hand window has octagonal mullions, and all ground floor openings are topped with wooden lintels. To the left, there is a single-storey pantiled lean-to addition with a plank door. Inside, the cottage features chamfered beams and a collar and principal roof. It is primarily listed for its group value with Shurton Lodge.
