The Admirals Seat, About 650 Metres North North East Of Cricket House

The Admiral's Seat, located about 650 metres north-north-east of Cricket House, is a garden house built in 1795. It is likely designed by Sir John Soane, who was active in the area from 1786 to 1807. The structure features squared flint with alternate stones that are boasted and recessed, along with Ham stone ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof set between stepped coped gables.

This single-storey building is rectangular in shape and includes a plinth, hexagonal corner pilasters with hollowed faces, and a string course. Below the string course is a moulded cambered-arched doorway with a square label. Above this, there is a 3-light window with three-centre-arched lights under a square label, which is now blind but retains external vertical ironwork. A datestone from 1595 is located above the window, and below it is another stone inscribed with 'erected 1795'.

The interior is plain, and the building was noted to be in poor condition as of October 1986. This small structure may incorporate fragments of an earlier house that is said to have been demolished or burned down in the late 18th century. If this is the case, it suggests that the earlier house was commemorated by the construction of the Admiral's Seat, marking the bi-centenary of its original construction.
