Description
Purtington House is a detached farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of local stone with a rendered finish and features Ham stone ashlar dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and has stepped coped gables, along with stone and brick chimney stacks. The building stands two storeys high with a four-bay east elevation. It has a plinth and a string course above the first floor. The windows are shallow hollow-chamfered mullioned types set in chamfered surrounds. The outer bays on both levels have angled bay windows with one light on the sides and three lights in the middle. The first-floor middle windows are three-light with labels.
A notable feature is the projecting flat-roofed porch that spans the second and third ground floor bays. This porch includes a plinth, angled corner buttresses, a string course, and a moulded coped plain parapet. The sides of the porch have single-light windows with a four-centre arch, while the front has a cambered arched doorway beneath a deep square lintel with carved panelled spandrels. There is a lean-to structure against the north gable, a wing wall with a sweep against the south gable, and extensions at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
