Description

House. Built around 1840, with a conservatory added in the late 20th century. The house is rendered with hipped slate roofs and overhanging eaves supported by paired shaped brackets. It has roughcast stacks flanking the central three bays, rising from the eaves to the right. The building is in an "L" shape facing south, with a north-west service wing and a curved stair turret at the angle.

The two-storey facade has a 1:3:1 bay arrangement, with the central section projecting slightly. The upper floor features 16-pane sash windows with moulded lintels on shaped brackets across the central three bays. The ground floor has a lead-roofed canted bay window with four 4-light sash windows on the left, 8-light French windows flanking the central entrance, and a four-light sash window to the right. A Ham stone, flat-roofed, Doric porch with paired columns and a plain entablature fronts the entrance. A half-glazed coat of arms, made of granite, is positioned in the centre of the porch. Double doors are set within the porch.

Inside, parts of the interior are visible, including panelled shutters and reeded door surrounds in the hall. There is also a cantilever stick staircase. The Chardstock House Estate was sold and divided in 1922.
