Description
The Stables at Parrocks Lodge is a stable building dating from around 1801, currently being converted into dwellings as of October 1985. It is constructed from random rubble chert stone, which was originally rendered, with Ham stone quoins, dressings, and window frames. The building features a hipped slate roof, with shallow pyramid roofs on the outer bays and a brick stack located between the first and second bays.
The plan is a rectangular block that is being converted into four dwellings. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical arrangement of bays. The outer bays have full-height semicircular-headed arches, with a flat string course and keystone set below the eaves. There is a circular window on the first floor, and the main block has pointed arch windows with scratch-moulded jambs. The tracery in these windows has been renewed without leading.
Wooden pointed arch loft doors are positioned flanking the central bay, and there is a flat Ham stone string course band. The central three bays have double doors with pointed arch heads, while the outer bays feature 20th-century doorways with pointed arch doorways and square-headed doors set in glazed openings. Overall, this is a handsome stable block.
