Description
Tatworth War Memorial, located immediately northwest of the Church of St John, is a First World War memorial erected in 1919. Made of ham stone, it is designed in the form of a Medieval preaching cross and has an octagonal shape. The memorial features a stepped base with a pedestal that has inscriptions on each side. On top of the pedestal stands a tall tapered octagonal shaft, which supports a cushion-like capital and is surmounted by a Latin cross with arms that terminate in volutes. The pedestal lists the names of twenty-eight servicemen from the parish who died in the First World War, along with an additional inscription that includes the names of six men who died in the Second World War. This memorial is a notable example of a First World War tribute and is situated within the parish churchyard.
