Description
Westcombe Stables, now a house, was originally built as stables and features a former ornamental lead rainwater head dated 1784, although the rain goods were replaced around 1960 with cast-iron. The building is constructed of ashlar and has hipped slate roofs, a cornice, and a parapet. It is designed in an L-plan with a Gothick style. Each inward-facing elevation has five openings on the first floor, with the center ones being circular and the others oval, all having emphasized surrounds and casements with radiating glazing bars. The left wing contains four semi-circular headed, two-light stone-mullioned windows with Y-tracery, casements with glazing bars, and a central semi-circular headed door opening with a ribbed door. The right wing has three wide elliptical-headed openings with double plank doors and two matching windows. The rear elevations feature mid-20th century fenestration. On the right return, there is a half-glazed door on the first floor, accessed by a flight of stone steps with an iron handrail. This building was part of the former estate of Westcombe House, which has since been demolished.
