Description
The drinking trough incorporating an ornamental grotto is a memorial to the coronation of George V, dated 1911. It is constructed from dressed freestone and coursed and squared rubble, designed in a Classical style. The structure features a small semi-circular head archway facing the roadside, complete with imposts and a dropped key, as well as carved figures and incised lettering on each side. This archway leads into a grotto lined with rubble, which is set into a bank. At the base of the archway, there is a bowl that is filled by a spout shaped like an ornamental lion's head mask. An entablature runs above, bearing a commemorative inscription of the coronation of George V. This trough is an important feature along the roadside.
