Description
The Castle is an estate house built in the early 19th century. It features coursed and squared rubble with a cross-gabled slate roof, complete with coped verges and onion finials. The building has a Tudoresque style with two storeys and a projecting gabled bay at the front. The windows are casements with glazing bars set in 2-light stone mullioned windows, each topped with stopped labels and a trefoil head for each light. There is a single light opening on each side of the bay. To the left side, there is a door opening in a two-storey gabled wing, which includes a 2-light stone mullioned window on the first floor, and below it, a plank door framed by a moulded stone surround and topped with a semi-circular stone hood supported by cut stone brackets. The forecourt is enclosed by cast iron railings with undulating heads on a low chamfered stone plinth. There are ashlar piers on either side with pyramidal caps, and a coursed and squared rubble wall with a dressed coping that extends 11 metres on each side.
