Description

The Clarke monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 2 meters south of the Church of St Matthew. It commemorates William Clarke, who passed away in 1709. The tomb is made of dressed stone and features an oblong shape resting on a moulded plinth. Each face of the tomb has keyed semi-circular head niches, and the top is a hipped slab that is moulded around its lower edge. There is an inscription on the north side, while the other inscriptions on the remaining faces are largely decayed.
