Description

Woolminstone Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating to the 17th century, with one section dated 1617. The exterior is constructed of roughly cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings, and a Welsh slate roof replacing what was originally thatch. A brick chimney stack is present.

The farmhouse follows an L-shaped plan with later additions. The south elevation has two storeys and an attic, and is five bays wide. It features hollow-chamfered mullioned windows set within wave-moulded recesses; most windows are three-light, except for the first-floor windows in bays one, two, and three, which are two-light. Lower windows have labels. A six-panelled door is located in the lower bay three, originally protected by an open porch with a room above. This porch was removed in the early 20th century, but the supporting columns of square, rusticated ashlar remain, now supporting a single-storey Welsh slate roof. A window from the upper bay three of the original porch has been reset under a gable.

The east gable and flank are three bays wide, with hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in chamfered recesses. The first-floor window in bay three has been extended, and the bay windows are four-light, with leaded upper sections, all with labels. In the gable, bay one, a chamfered recessed doorway without a label is present, with the inscription 'I.D.1617' incised on the lintel and a plaque displaying the arms of Merifield above; both may have been relocated. Further mullioned windows are found to the rear, a mix of 17th and 18th century designs. The north gable features pairs of windows on each level, including the attic, some of which are blocked. The interior of the farmhouse has not been inspected.
