Description
The Summer House, including the forecourt wall with gatepiers, dates from the mid to late 19th century and is two storeys high. It features an ashlar front with a section that projects forward on the right. The building has a moulded cornice and parapet, with a hipped pantile roof on the right-hand side. Plain corner pilasters, a stringcourse, and a plinth are also present. There are three windows with moulded architrave surrounds, and the windows in the right-hand section have cornices supported by curved brackets. The sashes have close-set glazing bars, and there is a French window leading to a balcony over the porch. The porch is adorned with an entablature and openwork parapets, supported by two columns and two pilasters featuring crocket capitals. Inside the porch, there is a niche with a semi-circular head and curved arm-rests. The entrance includes a four-panel door. A low wall runs along the street in front of the paved forecourt, with pairs of gatepiers at each end. These gatepiers have incised panels and pyramidal tops, and the walls extend back from the gatepiers to join the sides of the house. The Summer House, along with the Drinking Fountain and other nearby properties, forms a group.
