Description
A late 18th-century house and shops, originally three separate parts linked by an outbuilding. The house is constructed of coursed rubble, with a slate roof to number 2 and a double Roman tile roof to the rest of the building. The roofs are coped, with number 4A having a lower pitch. The facade is irregular, composed of three parts.
Number 2 is of two storeys and two bays, with four-pane sash windows to the first floor. It has two shop windows on the ground floor; a broad six-pane sash window with a wooden lintel to the left, and a shop front to the right with a six-pane opening flanked by pilasters with fluted caps, supporting a leaded drip hood. A central door opening contains a six-panelled door, the top two panels glazed.
The continuous outbuilding to the left is of two bays and two storeys. The left bay has five-pane casements under wooden lintels, with a small plank door under a wooden lintel on the first floor. The ground floor has two door openings: a recessed broad plank door to the left, and a six-panelled door with the top two panels glazed to the right, both under wooden lintels.
The shop attached to the left, divided by a plain pilaster, has a handsome shop front on an ashlar base. This shop front features a centrally recessed three-quarter glazed door with a transom light; a six-light window on either side, flanked by panelled pilasters supporting a narrow facioard carrying four moulded brackets which in turn support a narrow drip-hood.
