Description
Homedale is a building that may have served as a priest's house or church rooms, later functioning as a police station in the 19th century, and is now a dwelling. It dates from the 16th to 17th century and was restored in the 19th century. The exterior is rendered over random rubble and colourwashed, with a slate roof and a stone stack on the left. It faces south down Parsonage Lane and has a long eastern return that fronts the street. The building has three storeys with irregularly placed windows. The second floor features one two-light casement window, while the first floor has two two-light casements to the right of the entrance, which is a plank door beneath a pentice porch supported by brackets. On the ground floor, there is another plank door to the right. The return elevation includes two two-light mullioned openings with wooden shutters on the ground floor and a two-light casement window to the right in the gable end on the second floor. The entrance at the first floor is accessed via a random rubble landing with a brick arch below, linking the property to a flight of steps leading from the churchyard of St. Michael. The interior has not been viewed. The building is primarily listed for its group value with the Church of St. Michael and for its historical associations.
