Description

The Vestry and Sunday School Room, now used as a meeting place, is located adjacent to the east end of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Chilton Trinity Village. This small, tall Gothic structure dates from 1868, as indicated by the inscribed keystone on the south gable, which commemorates Joseph Richard Smith, a mayor of nearby Bridgwater. It is constructed from random red sandstone rubble with brick dressings and features a Bridgwater patent pantile roof, coped verges, and a crested ridge. The building is single storey with two bays, each having 2-light pointed head windows adorned with Y-tracery. The south side has a pointed arch door opening with paired plank doors fitted with strap hinges. Inside, there is a king-strut roof supported by twin angle struts and pendants. The vestry and Sunday school room is included primarily for its group value with the Church of the Holy Trinity, which is directly adjacent.
