Description
The gate piers, located 5 metres northeast of No. 17 on High Street in West Coker, are primarily from the 19th century. The pair of gate piers is made of Ham stone rusticated ashlar, measuring about 600mm square and standing 3 metres high. They are plinthed and capped, but there are no gates present. The boundary wall, constructed of local stone rubble, runs along the north side of the house and reaches a maximum height of 2 metres. It features two returns leading up the drive and is topped with wrought iron spearhead railings that are about 900mm high. There is a gap for a gate, which has been missing since August 1981, and a flight of 9 semi-circular steps leads up to the entrance. These features are an important part of the setting for No. 17 High Street and contribute significantly to the overall appearance of the street scene in the center of the village.
