Description
The former engine house, built in 1820, is located on Sandy Lane in Holford. Constructed from rubblestone, the building has two stages, with the upper stage set back. It features timber lintels above its openings. The gable has a wide central entrance with a round brick arch, and there are blocked openings above it for each stage. One side wall has a window opening, while the other side has a window and two altered doorways. This engine house was built in connection with a copper mine at Doddington, Holford. It is believed that the steam-raising plant was housed in a less permanent lean-to structure attached to the engine house. At the time of listing, the building was in a state of dereliction.
