Description

The granary at Wambrook Farm is a mid-19th century structure that also serves as an office. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond with ashlar quoins and features a pyramid slate roof topped with a wrought iron weather vane. The building is a single cell raised above an open basement and is set into the hillside. It has trefoil-headed stone lancets on either side of a gabled porch, which has a steeply pitched roof. The porch includes a doorway with a 4-centred arch head, a keystone, quoins, and a plank door, accessed by a flight of eight stone steps that are flanked by a low brick wall with chamfered stone coping. At the basement level, there are segmental-headed openings with brick voussoirs and low clasping buttresses capped with stone. Inside, the granary is ditch boarded throughout and features a fold-down counter in a small office recess to the right, along with in-situ grain bins. This unusual building serves as a focal point in the stableyard.
