Description

Selwood Lodge is a villa likely built in the 1830s, featuring Gothic revival elements. It has an irregular plan with a bow on the left end and another bow at the center right. The exterior is made of coursed and dressed rubble, topped with a tiled roof that includes fishscale bands, a crested ridge, and coped verges with finials. The eaves are bracketed and sweep up over drips on the first-floor bow windows. There are two stone stacks set diagonally, though only two out of the original four remain. The building is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic and has a layout of 2 + 1 + 1 bays. The full-height bow to the right of center features a three-light stone-mullioned casement window on the first floor, with pointed lights beneath a four-centred head and a dripmould. Other first-floor windows are small glazing bar sashes in two-light stone mullioned openings, while the ground floor has glazing bar sashes as well. The return to the left is treated as a full-height bow with similar window styles. A tiled pentice-roofed verandah runs along the ground floor and also returns. The gabled porch has a four-centred opening set in a pointed-arch recess, with trefoiled niches, and there is a pointed niche to the left of the porch. Inside, there is a top-lit stair made of oak with an unbraced upper flight. The room with the southeast bow window on the ground floor features a Gothic fireplace.
