Description
Nos 2 and 4 on Bath Road are a pair of lodges built in 1833 in the Turnpike style. They were constructed for George Sheppard's wife to serve as a dame school. The buildings are 1½ storeys tall and made of coursed and dressed rubble, topped with a pantile roof that has stone tiles at the base of the left side. The façade features three bays, with a central projecting gable. The windows include 2 and 3 light mullions with moulded heads and labels, and the ground floor center has a 1-3-1 angled bay. Number 2 retains its original cast-iron lattice casements. To the right, there is a gabled porch with a Tudor arch and side lancets, featuring a studded door under the arch. At the rear, there is a 1½ storey extension with stone tiles and a gabled dormer that contains a 2 light mullion window.
